Our album is out!
Our 4th full length album, NIGHT TIL DAY, is officially out and available to stream/download or, better yet, purchase on vinyl!! We made 100 copies on 180 gram vinyl. The jackets are screenprinted and it also comes with a lyric sheet insert designed by our drummer.
I just looked back at our show history and noted that our first show with our drummer Brandon was Nov. 24th, 2013, so we probably started playing with him a couple of months before then, and that was probably around when we started working on new songs for our album. So it really has been almost 3 years since we began writing these songs to finally having them out! Of course, 7 months of that was simply waiting for the pressing plant.
We recorded this album with Larry Crane engineering, and we were very insistent on recording all analog, meaning we used tape every step of the way, from recording to mixing to mastering to pressing the vinyl. There was absolutely no digital conversion anywhere along the way (except to get the songs streaming online). This was an experiment we wanted to try and we are glad we did it.
We have two album release shows planned: Saturday Aug. 13th at the Prospector in Long Beach with Nectarine and Rats in the Louvre and Saturday Sept. 3rd at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco with Slowness and Lavender Blush.
If you go to our Bandcamp page and click on the individual songs, you will find lyrics on some of them. The album has 11 songs. I will leave it at that for now...Oh here's a mockup of a logo I came up with. If we get around to making it look good enough we'll make up some stickers and stuff with it!
Thanks for reading :)

Oh one last thing. We were guests on Rebirth of Rock radio show on Kbeach.org last week and that was a lot of fun! Thanks Jody and Judy for having us on.

recording begins next week, 8/20 show in long beach
Next week we begin recording our next album, tentatively called "Night 'Til Day" (also the name of one of the songs). It will have 11 songs: Night 'Til Day, Unrelated, 31 Down, Aaronsong, Violet Leaves, Flamethrower, Cosmic Cave, Moonsayer, Alone Again, Place of Mind, Won't Get There (not necessarily in that order). We're not sure how we will release it at this point but we are hoping to make around 50 copies on vinyl and maybe have some other formats as well, but maybe not. Frankly we are not all that hip with all the digital streaming services and we are growing a bit (more) disillusioned with the Internet as a means to share our music. We will likely have one or two songs that we put up online but in the interest of making the physical album something special we may hold off on putting everything up online. It is certainly an interesting time we live in and the idea that bands are supposed to bend over backwards getting their music out there isn't necessarily one we subscribe to, but having one or two songs up is fairly obvious and easy enough to do. Beyond that it tends to get confusing and frustrating for us and there is only so much time in the day. Anyway I'll try not to think about all that and just focus on getting good recordings of these songs. Having a few days off to focus on our music is truly something that brings us great joy and helps get us through life!
I may as well also say that we have a show booked for August 20th in Long Beach at 4th St. Vine with the band Balms from San Francisco: http://balms.bandcamp.com It is free and we are on first at 8pm.
We will also have a newish song released on a comp soon. It's a remix that Kelley did of a cover of the Doors "5 to 1" that we recorded awhile back. We have a different version of that song on a different comp but this one is not only a different cover version but the remix really is a radical interpretation of the recording and we think it is super cool :)
We will probably post updates from our recording session on Instagram (username: spacewaves) and our Facebook page (http://facebook.com/spacewaves) and perhaps even Twitter @sarahspacewaves if anyone is interested in that!
Thanks and until next time.... ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

4th album plans, Sing My Song cassettes, etc
Time for another update!
We are solidifying plans to record our 4th album in early August. Larry Crane will once again be recording us and we will record on 2" tape. We will get basic tracking done in Los Angeles and then finish it up in Portland. Super excited for this, we have been working very hard to make this happen!
Also Leg Records will be releasing our album Sing My Song on cassette and they will be available very soon!! Maybe even in time for our next show June 7th at Alex's Bar! This will be a fun show so come on out if you can.

Sing My Song vinyl available! Demos for 4th album up!
hello
Kelley reminded me that I haven't updated here in awhile, so here goes.
We got our records in! We ordered 250 copies of our 3rd album 'Sing My Song,' which was recorded and mixed by Larry Crane and mastered by Garrett Haines.
They're available for $15 + shipping through our Bandcamp page, or from us in person. Copies can also be found at Fingerprints Records in Long Beach, CA, Third Eye Records also in Long Beach, Moldy Toes Records in San Clemente, McGreat Records in San Clemente, Sound Spectrum in Laguna Beach, Origami Vinyl in Echo Park, and Vacation Vinyl in Silver Lake! We still have a few CDs available too.
We were guests on the Doug and Judy Radio Show out of Long Beach Community College, and that was a lot of fun!
We have been working on new songs for another upcoming album, still untitled. It will be our 4th full length album. It will be our first album with Brandon Werts joining us on drums. We currently have five demos of that album up on bandcamp here: https://spacewaves.bandcamp.com/album/album-4-demos
Lastly but not leastly, we played a couple of shows in Long Beach, at the Prospector and at Alex's Bar. We also played at the Virgil and probably a few other spots in L.A. since I last updated. Here we are at the Prospector:

I think that's about it for now. We don't have any shows booked right now since we are focusing on our new songs and getting demos recorded. We would like to go up to San Francisco next year and maybe some other spots, like Joshua Tree perhaps!

We're getting vinyl!
We are so happy to finally get some of our music pressed onto vinyl! After much researching, hemming and hawing it looks like we're getting 250 copies of our upcoming album Sing My Song on vinyl. We've been wanting to get vinyl ever since we started the group nearly six years ago but it never happened until now, so for us this is very special. Because of time constraints we decided to cut one song ("Broken") as well as two of the three short instrumental pieces. So the vinyl tracklisting will be a little different from the CD version but we think it still has a nice flow to it.
CD tracklisting
We already ordered the CDs, of which we're getting 100, and we'll order the vinyl soon. Then hopefully we'll be able to play some shows locally and go on some tours.

Story behind album art (in progress)
I'm getting ready to finish working on our album art and thought I'd write a little bit about it.
One day a year or two ago, back when we lived in the Oregon countryside, there was a big frog sitting on our walkway. I took several pictures of it and later on I drew a picture from one of the photos. Sometimes I like to incorporate words into my drawings and the phrase "sing my song" came to me while making the picture, so I wrote that next to the frog. Later on I thought it would be a good album title--or maybe Kelley did, I can't quite remember. I liked the idea of animals having a song, of it being something unique to them, their own way of communicating. It's something that can never be taken away. That is what is empowering to me about playing music and writing songs. No one is going to write your songs for you, or sing them for you. If you have them in you it's up to you to get them out somehow! I also love frog sounds, and I wasn't surprised when I saw online that a frog sound was voted the most beautiful sound in the world. At first I thought a frog was kind of a funny thing to put on an album, but more and more things like that happened that made it make more and more sense to me. We also went through a Led Zeppelin phase and they have the lyric 'sing my song' in....let me look it up....Ramble On. Well ok.
Another thing about the drawing is that it looks like the frog has three legs. Two on its right side and one in the back. That was just what it looked like in the photo I drew from because of the perspective. That back leg kind of bothers me because it looks like it has one big
mondo leg in the back. But when you look at the original photograph it
makes sense, because that's actually what it looks like in the picture. I
guess a little wonkiness is all right because I am not the type of
person to claim perfection or even seek it. I like the energy of the
colors and what it brings up for me. That was the only time I saw a frog on that property though I could hear them once in awhile in the creek behind the house.
I'm hoping I can do the artwork myself but I'm also stressing out about it. I kind of want to take the frog drawing somewhere and take a picture of it with a background, like maybe the beach. I'm not too sure though and I'm totally procrastinating. We have everything else done so the art is the last step. I might need to get some help or else I might not ever finish it!
Another thing foretelling about the drawing is the two drops in the upper right corner, another random thing I added in. We have a song called Bleeding Tears (the song was written after I made the drawing) and hey that red drop could be a bleeding tear.
I know the drawing is not perfect and maybe it's not even good at all. It is what it is and that's all I can say. Thank you froggy.
I also made this for our song Jupiter In A Bottle.
We had a song we were working on that had no title. The phrase "Jupiter in a bottle" came to me and I thought it would be a good song title and that it would work for that song. In astrology Jupiter can represent expansive energy, being a giant gas planet, and well if you listen to the song I think it fits.
I wrote a report on Jupiter in the second grade. I always thought it was so beautiful!

End of year update
Dear Internet, a lot has been happening in our little corner of the world so here's an update, which I guess will be the end of year update for us.
2013 has mostly been very busy for us recording-wise. We released a second full-length album (You can ride a beam of light like a musical strum) and we finished recording our third full-length, titled Sing My Song. We will finish mixing Sing My Song in January at Jackpot! Studios in Portland, Oregon with Larry Crane. He also engineered the recording of the album, making it the first album that we did not record ourselves (by 'we' I mean Kelley). So I guess that makes it our first official studio album? Well that's kind of exciting.
We also moved back to southern California after being back in Oregon for two years. We are very happy to be back in SoCal and have recently started playing out around here. We have two upcoming shows: Friday, December 27th at Silverlake Lounge at 10pm and Thursday, January 2nd at Que Sera in Long Beach as part of Press Play's "New Year's Hangover" night.
We are working on a new song that reminds me of some Spacemen 3 tunes. We also have a cover song project in the works.
We hope that next year we will be able to get some of our stuff on vinyl for the first time. We have "You can ride" mastered for vinyl already. We are very eager for that to happen! It will truly be a dream come true.
2014 will mark our 6th year as a band. We started recording original songs in December of 2008, so it has been pretty much exactly five years since we started. In general we try to do as much as we can with what we have. We hope to tour more, especially to the east coast and we'd love to go back to the midwest. But we have to live in the confines of reality so we'll see what actually comes about, and when. We feel very lucky to have pulled off what we have so far, and to have found the right people to work with. We are very thankful for what support we have gotten. Here's to the new year!

For Adam H. of Pehr, Pehrspace, Timonium
I'm writing this for our friend Adam Hervey, who last week at the age of 36 suffered a brain stem stroke. He is in the hospital recovering right now, and thank goodness his recovery is going well! I (Sarah) met Adam back around 2003 when I was music director at UCLA's radio station. He ran a record label called Pehr and he had sent the station a sampler CD of some different releases on Pehr. I really liked it and after looking at their website saw they were looking for interns. I ended up interning there and working there after college for awhile. Adam is also in a wonderful band called Timonium, which has been around since the 90s, if I'm remembering correctly! I was lucky to go on a US tour with them as their tour manager, and see such exotic locales as Fargo, San Antonio, and Wichita. During the time I worked at Pehr, I remember Adam talking about opening up a venue. Lo and behold, he did so a couple of years later, the all ages, non-profit music and art space Pehrspace. If that's not visionary then I don't know what is. Aside from his great love of music and community, Adam is just such an amazing, wonderful person. Anyone who meets him will tell you that. I have so many good memories thanks to him. I even started playing music again after meeting another Pehr intern and starting a band with him and some friends, after not playing any instruments in college. That was when I started playing bass at my friend's prompting, which I still play. And my bandmates got involved with Pehr and Pehrspace and still are. It is just crazy the domino effect that happens. Anyway, I am very grateful for these experiences and I have Adam Hervey to thank!
Some of Adam's friends set up this page to help him with donations for anyone who would like to donate. I researched it online and it seems legitimate, but if you are interested in donating I'd research it first to make sure you feel comfortable. Don't take my word for it! http://www.giveforward.com/friendsofadam
Here are some links to Timonium songs/videos and other Pehr related artists:
My old band Seven Times on the Sea
Other bands on Pehr were Delaney, Grimble Grumble, Picastro, Mt. Analog, Languis, Sir, Empress to name a few. Lots of great music that I still love. And, wow, most of them you can't find on YouTube, imagine that. :)
Here's wishing Adam Hervey the best recovery possible.

space waves lyrics and pictures fun time
here are some lyrics for some songs from our new batch of songs, plus some pictures i have been collecting.
sad song
why can't i stop thinking of you
why won't you get out of my head?
I guess I just like you too much
Sometimes I wish I was dead
I didn't mean to hurt anyone
I didn't want to hurt anyone
Why is life so disappointing
I don't know I guess I'll get stoned
In my head it's like a movie
No one's watching, I'm all alone
I didn't mean to hurt anyone
I didn't want to hurt anyone
Why do all of these things happen
I don't care to answer the phone
Friendly faces disappearing
Melt to nothing, that's how it goes
I didn't mean to hurt anyone
I didn't want to hurt anyone
End
I don't know where I'm going
I can't see what's in front of me
In the house of new beginnings
All I know is what is lost
In the end I will cry for you
Looking out on a sunny river
Too afraid to dive down
Is this love or condescension
Will you always be a part of me
In the end I will cry for you
Feeling sorry for existing
Cut my teeth on a chime in the wind
Sharing vows for a new tomorrow
Just like hell without the sin
In the end I will cry for you
Do it better, do it faster
Pay your worth and stab your friends
Smiling stomach, the blade it slices
Leave your blood for the end

December California shows and stuff
We are playing some shows in California around our holiday travels. So far we have:
December 20th at the Hemlock in San Francisco with Venus Beltran and In Letter Form
Dec. 21st downtown LA TBA
Dec. 22nd at 5 Star Bar with Old Toy Trains, Heroes and Heroines, Nicholas Chacon and DJs
Dec. 27th Audie's in Fresno with Dia Del Astronauta and Between The Cities Are Stars
Okay that's about it for that.....our album is done, we just have to do the artwork and decide on a title. And get it pressed up or distributed in some manner. I'm already moving on to our next album but guess we need to get this one all dressed up and ready for a night on the town first, or whatever...but we already have the makings of about six or so songs, some more complete than others. Actually I want this upcoming album to be more like a satisfying meal than anything else. A nice familiar meal that somehow stays exciting. I don't know. Music is weird. I've been into drawing lately. I like to use these oil pastels, the greasy kind. Well I'm trying to do 30 days of drawings based off a 3-card Tarot reading. I've done two and I am looking forward to making another one tomorrow. We'll see how long until I lose interest! The one above is the one from today. I like that shape a lot. I used the Crowley Thoth deck for this one. I had already drawn the outline of that shape, and then I spread the deck over it and selected the cards.
I feel like making a list of things that are good.

Nov. 3rd at Backspace! Nov. 6th at Ella St! CA tour! Album news, etc.
We are excited to be playing this coming Saturday, November 3rd, at Backspace in Portland, OR. It will be our first show at Backspace and I do like the vibe of the place, and also our drummer Mark from San Francisco will be here for the show! We have been practicing a lot and we have also been practicing a brand new song called SunMoon that we might try to play. We're playing with Miss Massive Snowflake and The Blacklights!
We are also playing a few days later, on November 6th at Ella St. Social Club with Pinscape and Cober. It will also be our first time playing at Ella St., and I am looking forward to hearing the other bands. It was supposed to be with A Shoreline Dream from Colorado but they unfortunately had to cancel their tour. Bummer! But it happens.
We are also working on some dates in California in December. November will see the final mixing of our upcoming album, which will be self-titled. I am excited for my steel drumming and flute tooting to get the royal treatment. Not to mention the guitars, bass, drums, and singing!

More blahdy blah
Here I AM
Rock you like a hurriCAN
I just found out Scorpions are German. Who knew? Not me, that's who.
I heard that song on the radio today, and it made me fist-pump during the chorus, like my arm had a mind of its own. It was fun. Oh and I headbanged too. Duh.
whoa. this is amazing http://pinterest.com/tracieconley/rocks-stones-and-crystals/
